Wangedigala Mountain
An enjoyable experience that ends with a breathtaking view
Wangedigala and Wangedigala Mountain are two different peaks which most locals as well as Tourist hikers consider as the same peak. Wangedigala is a rock platform on the left side of the mountain that resembles a large stage and offers an exquisite view of the surrounding area.
Hiking through the Pine forest of Wangedigala, hikers can witness the beauty of mountain ranges around them and breathtaking sceneries of Bambarakanda Falls and Lanka Falls which fall from the mountain neighbouring Wangedigala. Hikers will have a thrilling experience of crossing Bambarakanda Falls via a rope bridge.
We will be trekking through many stretches of forest which grow Pine trees. The needles (leaves) of the Pine tree are very slippery to tread on so be cautious when hiking these paths.

Definitely a must do for anyone
Hiking to Wangedigala was like stepping into a postcard. The views are wide and open, and the pine forest gives it a very different feel compared to other tropical trails in Sri Lanka. The smell of the pines, the soft ground, and the filtered light.. We even caught a clear view of Lanka Falls sparkling in the sun. Definitely a must do for anyone who loves hiking, nature photography, or just a good adventure with stunning scenery.

One of my top trekking experiences
If you're after an off the beaten path adventure in Sri Lanka, Wangedigala delivers. The hike starts gently but quickly turns into a real workout as you navigate the slippery pine trails. The forest is dense, quiet, and incredibly scenic a huge contrast to most tropical hikes. I loved that the hike included different landscapes: forest, waterfalls, open ridges, and rocky peaks. Definitely one of my top trekking experiences. Just wear good boots and pack water, you’ll need it!

Bring good shoes and a camera!
The scent of the trees, the cool mountain air, and the occasional bird calls create an incredible atmosphere. We crossed the rope bridge near Bambarakanda Falls, which was both terrifying and thrilling! Once we reached the rock platform of Wangedigala, it felt like we were on top of the world. You could see for miles! Bring good shoes and a camera!

Tough in places, but totally worth it.
Wangedigala was a complete surprise. I hadn’t heard much about it before coming to Sri Lanka, but this hike turned out to be unforgettable. The pine forest trail was dreamlike, with shafts of light filtering through the tall trees and soft mist rolling in. The trail can be a bit slippery, especially where pine needles cover the path, but it’s doable with good footwear. A hidden gem for sure. Tough in places, but totally worth it.

One of the highlights of my Sri Lanka trip
This hike to Wangedigala was one of the highlights of my Sri Lanka trip. I had no idea about the “pestle-shaped” peak until our guide explained the name ,such a cool local touch. The trail itself felt like something out of a fantasy movie.Once we reached the Wangedigala rock platform, we sat in silence for a bit just taking it all in. That view... layers of green mountains, clouds rolling below, and the falls glinting far off..

Just raw nature and endless views
Wangedigala was everything I hoped for in a highland hike misty, wild, and full of surprises. The trail starts gently but becomes more adventurous as you move deeper into the pine forest. Walking on pine needles can be tricky — they’re super slippery but the scenery makes up for it tenfold. Not crowded, just raw nature and endless views. Wangedigala is more than a hike; it’s a journey through some of the most underrated highland beauty in Sri Lanka.
